On Saturday, November 7, 2026 we will have an exciting soundtrack to dance, to flag, or just to watch. This free event will be at the Wellness Park (600 E Tachevah) in Palm Springs. There will be an instructional class preceding the event at 10:00 AM and the DJ started at 11:00. While the event was free we will collect for our local charity.
"Desert Flaggers' is the local organization that sponsors the event. They have a variety of events that are listed on their webpage at www.desertflaggers.com. These include classes, weekend flagging in various parks, social events, fundraisers, and flash mobs. They can be seen every Sunday as they open t-dance at OSCAR’S. The art of flagging is the spinning of flags rhythmically to music. Silk flags are usually dyed in vibrant, ultraviolet fluorescent colors, creating an almost hypnotic spectacle when spun rhythmically. They are made by adding curtain weights sewn onto the edges of two sides of the fabric to make it possible for flaggers to spin them through the air. Flags are as fun to watch as they are to spin! The basic moves are easy, fun, and visually stunning. Flow Flags are easy to pick up and soft on your body when you make mistakes. Come at 10:30 AM for our novice class and then enjoy the afternoon. For November 2026 we have TWO returning DJs. Russ Rich was our DJ for November 2022, and Phillip Grasso was our DJ for November 2023. Russ Rich is one of San Francisco’s most versatile DJs. Early on in his DJ career, he became known for his happy and uplifting vocal style. After several years spinning local bars and T-Dances, he graduated to headliner status, playing peak time sets at clubs like “Industry” at Mighty, “Hero” at Ruby Skye, and “Colossus” at 1015 Folsom. In 2011, Russ won “San Francisco’s Next Top DJ” competition, and in 2013, he won a nationwide contest for Gay Internet Radio Live. That same year, Russ was named Resident DJ for PLAY T-Dance, held each year at Mezzanine following the Up Your Alley Street Fair. Recently, Russ began producing remixes with production partner Leo Frappier. His recent original collaboration with DJ Phil B (“Insane”) became a #1 hit on Dance World Radio.
Philip Grasso's signature style of funky house and driving tech house creates a unique dance floor experience that’s full of non-stop energy. Philip’s curated sound has landed him gigs at notable events including REAL BAD presents RECOVERY, Folsom Street Events’ Bay of Pigs, and Matinée NY Pride. When not home in San Francisco at his residences (Lookout and Halcyon), he's spinning across North America from NYC to Seattle and LA to Vancouver.
Flagging in the Desert has moved to a NEW LOCATION. Located close to Ruth Hardy Park the WELLNESS PARK provides a great area of grass and shade, easy access and parking, and accessible restrooms. It is located on the corner at 600 E Tachevah and easy parking can be found off N Via Miraleste.
